18 Vol. 42, No. 3 The Oregon Surveyor | Government Relations NSPS Day on the Hill Summary April 10, 2019 T he Spring 2019 meeting kicked off on April 9 with a preparatory brief- ing for participants for the Day on the Hill held on site at the Hilton in Ar- lington, Virginia. On the morning of April 10, approximately 60 members began their Day on the Hill with a breakfast at the Capitol Hill Club featuring Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) and Rep. Carol Miller (R-WV). The four issues, connected to The Role of Surveying Data in Building America’s Infrastructure, that NSPS ad- vocated as part of NSPS Day on the Hill included: 1) The 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) via the U.S. Geological Survey; 2) NOAA’s Digital Coast Act; 3) the Feder- al Land Asset Inventory Reform (FLAIR) Act for the Department of the Interior; and 4) the Improvement of Mapping, Addresses, Geography, Elevations and Structures (IMAGES) Act for FEMA NFIP Reform. Attendance for the 2019 Day on the Hill: • 60 NSPS members went to Capitol Hill • Representing at least 32 States • 120+ visits (House and Senate) Results up to May 15 from the NSPS Advocacy stemming from NSPS Day on the Hill visits: • Introduction of the FIRM IT Act (H.R. 2318/S. 1144)—NSPS quoted in news release • Bipartisan introduction of the Digital Coast Act (H.R. 2189/S. 1069)—NSPS quoted in news release. Hearing held May 8 on House bill • Bipartisan introduction of the FLAIR Act (H.R. 2485/S. 1295)—NSPS quoted in news release • 16 Senators and 38 Representatives co-signed bipartisan letters requesting “robust” funding for 3DEP in FY2020 PLSO representatives meet with Congressman Greg Walden.
