The in- teractions I had that day with the program and students had me hooked and made me realize that CTE offers enormous po- tential to the surveying profession. From that first Industry Day alone, four students who had never heard of surveying start- ed asking serious questions about how to pursue it. What happened that day has stuck with me and made me realize this is something that we, as land survey- ors, need to leverage as much as we can; the opportunity is too good to pass up. In the fall of 2018, the Oregon Department of Transportation’s (ODOT) Engineering Automation Section and CTEC partnered to offer a project-based learning oppor- tunity to CTEC students in the Drone & Robotics program. ODOT created a fic- tional project on a 20-acre site where mapping for engineering design of a new maintenance facility was needed. Drone & Robotics students played the role of an aerial mapping and engineering firm, and The interactions I had that day with the program and students had me hooked and made me realize that CTE offers enormous potential to the surveying profession.
