PLSO Oregon Surveyor January/February 2019

Professional Land Surveyors of Oregon | www.plso.org 27 OrYSN Corner O n January 16, 2019, over 60 Young Surveyors and (not young) Sup- porters gathered at a private room at the Oregon Electric Station in Eugene for the Oregon Young Survey- ors Quarterly Meetup. This is the third year that an event of this kind was held on the Wednesday evening of the PLSO conference. The gathering included 13 Oregon Tech students and 15 people new to the OrYSN. Appetizers and door prizes were generously sponsored by Harper Houf Peterson and Righellis, Neathamer Surveying, Tim Kent, PPI, KR, Frontier Precision, Baseline Equipment Company, and Hofland Monuments. This event was one of two OrYSN events at the annual PLSO conference. On Thurs- day, Kelly Miller, Leo Litowich, and Paul Kowalczyk gave a presentation in front of a full room titled “Tell Us We’re Wrong” about challenging projects for them in the previous year. The good news is that those in attendance thought that all the presenters were at least “in the ballpark” of being right! Stay tuned—you may see a talk like this at the chapter level and at Conference again next year. The Oregon Young Surveyors Network has monthly conference calls and quar- terly Meetups. Each April and October, they host a social in Salem after the Oregon-specific PLS exam for test takers as well as regular membership. For our summer activity, we have piggybacked onto existing survey events.
