PLSO Oregon Surveyor January/February 2019
13 Professional Land Surveyors of Oregon | www.plso.org PLSO Conference Special Member of the Year Kelly Miller Team Player Award Eric Osman Special Members are those professionals with an interest in, or association with, the profession of land surveying, but not a licensed surveyor or training to be a licensed surveyor in the State of Oregon (Miller is licensed in other states). As Special Member of the Year, Miller has also done exemplary work and demonstrated professionalism during the year. As I have worked with Kelly on more than one project, including managing the finances of PLSO, I can honestly say that nobody deserves this more. As her nomination form stated, “Kelly Miller is no regular special member. She has gone above and beyond trying to pro- mote our profession. Kelly is one of the three original members of the Oregon Young Surveyors Network. She was the OrYSN chair in 2017 and is now the PLSO Finance Chair. In addition to the offices she held over the last few years, she also found time to sit on the PLSO rebranding committee and volunteer at the Oregon Tradeswomen events showing she is dedicated to PLSO and her profession. Her leadership and professional- ism are rare, and we wish to nominate her for the 2019 Special Member of the Year Award.” I stated before, it takes a village to bring value to an associa- tion, or in this case, one great Team Player to keep our largest chapter in the state involved. As Robert Boyer stated, “Pioneer Chapter nominates Eric for the Team Player Award. Eric served as the chapter’s Secretary-Treasurer in 2018 and distinguished himself by composing incredibly thorough and detailed chap- ter minutes through the use of his voice recorder. ‘Team Player’ doesn’t do Eric full justice. He is more like a team manager, if not the coach. Over 2018 Eric has shown himself to be thought- ful, helpful, and willing to take the initiative on chapter issues —all the time maintaining a contagious good attitude. Just one example was Eric’s leadership in making the Summer Picnic a success by procuring the picnic supplies and convincing his wife Kim to do the cooking.” Wherever you are, take a breath and give our award recipients the standing ovation they deserve for the time they’ve spent on all of us. As we move forward into 2019, I encourage everyone to think about what part of the professional community they want to have an impact on. Dig deep and find that little spark of Elizabeth Andrew in yourself. We can’t wait to see what you bring to the table!
