The Oregon Surveyor Sept/Oct 2018

From the PLSO Chairman Want to help increase professionalism, help others become licensed, or gener- ally improve surveying around the state? PLSO is working with OSBEELS on many of these issues that affect all of us. Check in with Scott Freshwaters (Central), Rob Lennox (Pioneer), or Tim Fassbender (Midwest) to find out more about the is- sues and how you might be able to help. Scott has been doing a great job as our OSBEELS Liaison and has been working hard to keep us informed. Speaking of professionalism, let’s grow the PLSO! Invite a fellow surveyor from your company or others to attend ameet- ing, check out what’s happening and get involved at whatever level you’re comfort- ablewith. Better yet, bring your technicians to a meeting with you, or pay for at least one day for them to attend the Annual Conference, coming up this January 16–18 in Eugene. Plus, don’t forget to introduce them to the Young Surveyor’s Network. I can’t say enough about what the young surveyors are doing for our profession and within PLSO. Thanks to all who are involved with and leading that group with fresh new ideas and involvement. As a final note, when I started my term, I had a vision of completing our re-branding, and we’re almost there. Several items yet to finish include updating the website feel and functionality and setting PLSO up for an overhaul of our strategic plan. Strategic planning is a critical tool in our vision of who we are and where we plan to go in the coming years. If I haven’t said it enough already, get involved and let your wants, needs, and vision influ- ence where we go. It’s been a great year, and we’re entering the home stretch, so stay tuned!  x Professional Land Surveyors of Oregon  |  www.plso.org 5
