6 The Oregon Surveyor | Vol. 41, No. 1 From the PLSO Office Aimee McAuliffe PLSO Exec. Secretary SHAKE 2018 UP? ARE WE READY TO A nother conference has come and gone. It’s always a good time vis- iting with all of you, seeing the faces of the members I’ve spoken to on the phone or emailed over the past year. For example, Jerry Maris told me he kept up with the PLSO Office by read- ing this little column of mine, and I told him that I would always picture him as the one person I’m writing to. Hi Jerry! Hope you made it home okay. Or Barry Zelmer, who was having a bad week, when he had to call the PLSO office to clear up a membership record issue. At the conference he let me know how just doing my job improved his week, which made my day. This column might be a little bit of a repeat for both of you, but I really appreciate everyone for coming to the conference and being a part of your professional community. As I was working on the details for the Conference, which includes the State Boarding Meeting, Annual Membership Meeting and the Education & Outreach Auction—all major association happen- ings that require a summary of the past year, I got excited about the amount PLSO does for the size it is. Last year alone, we successfully raised money for scholar- ship and outreach programs, awarded $18,000 in scholarships, ran a successful TrigStar season, recruited and promoted the survey profession and its school pro- grams at a minimum of a dozen events, started amajor rebranding effort, worked tirelessly for your efforts in Salem and Washington D.C., helped send students to the NSPS annual competition and vol- unteer liaisons to represent PLSO on the regional and national level, started an OSU Student Chapter, and of course held many a Chapter Meeting and State Board Meetings. This is donewith one staffmem- ber, a lobbyist consultant and lots and lots of volunteers. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate all those volunteers. From serving on the State Board and chairing committees to setting up a trade show booth, proctor- ing TrigStar exams, inviting a speaker to attend the conference, working on a new logo and finding sponsors—you are all amazing . Thank you to every single one of you. You are a major reason we are finding success in our community. I can’t tell you how much you are appreciated by your fellow members, and most cer- tainly by me. There is no way PLSO could do what it does without you. I would be remiss not particularly thank- ing outgoing State Board Chairman, Dave Williams. Not only did Dave deliver on his promise ofmaking things happenwhile still having fun, but he was a very good lead- er. PLSO has been lucky to have benefited from his time and experience. Incoming State Chairman Pat Gaylord and Chair- Elect Shawn Kampmann have some big shoes to fill. I also want to acknowledge our incoming and outgoing members of the Board of Directors. I truly appreciate their time, strong opinions, and sense of humor. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate all those volunteers. From serving on the State Board and chairing committees to setting up a trade show booth, proctoring TrigStar exams, inviting a speaker to attend the conference, working on a new logo and finding sponsors—you are all amazing.
