The Oregon Surveyor | 12 Vol. 41, No. 1 PLSO Conference S OT Y S U R V E Y O R O F T H E Y E A R Lee Spurgeon, PLS 2017 The surveyor of the year award is just that: the opportunity to recognize one of our colleagues who stood out among the crowd for their contribution to PLSO and the profession. The minimum requirements that must be met to qualify for the Surveyor of the Year Award are: 1. Be a Corporate Member of PLSO for 5 or more years. 2. Have demonstrated a history of high competence, integrity, and professionalism. 3. Assisted qualified and interested people in advancement within the profession. 4. Career-long service to the profession. A ll Surveyor of the Year nominations must come from at least five PLSO members in good standing. There was no shortage of individuals wanting to nominate Lee Spurgeon this year. In fact, his nomination was submitted by more than the required amount, each of whom has previously been Surveyor of the Year. The biography submitted along with the nomination was impressive to say the least, and you can read it following this introduction. Lee has served as chapter president, elected as chair-elect and board chair the following year, where he graciously stepped up and served two consecutive years to oversee the hiring and transition of Executive Secretary, Aimee McAuliffe, in 2014. Currently, he serves as the Education & Outreach Committee Chair and is a member of the Rebranding Task Force. He has a passion for sharing our profession with students, offering internship opportunities to 100% of student applicants, which include ride-alongs, tutoring, mentoring for high school senior projects, and opportunities for professional collaboration. In past years he has received the Bright Idea Award, Good Humor Award, and Article of the Year award, but as his nomina- tion form states, “It’s high time we recognize his contributions to PLSO” as our 2017 Surveyor of the Year: Lee Spurgeon. There was no shortage of individuals wanting to nominate Lee Spurgeon this year.
