PLSO Oregon Surveyor Vol. 40 No. 6

9 Professional Land Surveyors of Oregon  |  www.plso.org PLSO Conference Beyond the Horizon- Exploring the Future By Tim Kent, PLS, Conference Chair I t is comforting to return to the Salem Convention Center for our 2018 PLSO Annual Conference. The I-5 corridor remains the best option for providing the members a well-balanced program while the conference center continues to support us with all of the amenities that are required. This year, we want our attendees to think “Beyond the Horizon” as they network, earn PDH hours and help build the future of our professional community by supporting the silent and live auctions. Not only is it a great way to start the new year, but it’s appropri- ate for the direction of PLSO. Face-to-face networking at live events still prove the best way to create lasting connections and provide more opportunity for creativity and inno- vation. Be sure to save money by registering for the discounted rate prior to January 1st. The conference committee has lined up a number of new speakers and topics for your learning experience. Some are new, like Kris Kline, Daniel Katz, and Dave Imus. We are also fortunate to have the support of a number of returning speakers, some with new topics for you to enjoy. Be sure to check out the full schedule, descriptions, and speaker bios at www.plso.org/2018Seminars. The exhibitor booths have all been sold so look forward to visiting both old and new personnel that continue to be our backbone for getting our projects completed. They generously support us throughout the year and your support to them is appreciated, not to mention many of them have sales specials at the conference. Make sure you stay for the Exhibitor hosted cocktail reception starting at 5pm on Wednesday, January 17 and get to know them better. The Young Surveyors will (always) be with us. Your support for our future professionals is important to assure that we remain an integral part of our service to society. Remember that you, no matter your age, can be a supporter of the Young Surveyors Network by signing up at www.nsps.us.com or go to the Oregon Network page at www.plso.org/ysn. You will be able to meet them at their Meet Up on Wednesday night after the Exhibitor Cocktail Reception. We will also have a Map Contest and Student Program and the Education & Outreach Silent Auction during the conference. On Thursday evening, the Education & Outreach Dinner Auction will close out the day. Be sure to join that event and support the efforts made to assure the continuation of educational programs both for the public and stu- dents about our profession. Lastly, let the conference committee members know about your experience, both good and not so good, while at the conference. These volunteers have given many hours of their time to present you with a quality conference. The Committee includes Shaun Fidler, Gary Johnston, Shawn Kampmann, Paul Landau, Jason Martin, and Jered McGrath. Register Today! at www.plso.org/2018Conference and be a part of what’s happening Beyond the Horizon! We look forward to seeing you all in January.
