OTA Dispatch Issue 2 2019

29 www.ortrucking.org Issue 2 | 2019 MEMBER NEWS April 24, 2019 | Portland Expo Center, Portland, OR DSU HOSTED THEIR ANNUAL PURCHASING EVENT and invited OTA to set up a booth again this year. Plus, OTA’s Adam Williamson got a chance to teach a well-received 45-minute overview course on vehicle inspection, repair, and maintenance. The event gave OTA an opportunity to engage with our members, promote our association’s services to prospective members, and of course view new trucks and parts! Thanks to DSU for letting us participate. 2019 DSU TRUCK EXPO Bring Your Kid to Work Day ODOT Motor Carrier Transportation Division (MCTD) Office, Salem, OR WHEN ODOT REQUESTED a truck for the annual Bring Your Kid to Work Day, Andy Owens with A & M Transport happily agreed. With some coordination with Joe Moody, Scott Keith drove one of the company’s shiny trucks to the main office to show kids (and grown-ups) what it’s like to sit behind the wheel. Scott handed out “squishy truck” stress squeeze toys and talked to some of the kids about the different types of freight they move and where they travel to. “I was there for about two hours. There were a lot of comments like, ‘You sleep in here?’ ‘Wow, there’s a refrigerator!’ Of course, many asked to blow the air horn. A couple kids said they would like to drive a truck like this one day. The Motor Carrier Enforcement crew even set up two types of scales and ran through inspections with small groups of kids. Many folks thanked us for bringing out the truck for the event.” April 25, 2019 Leavitt’s Freight May, 4, 2019 WHA Insurance, Eugene, OR Seventeen students attended a three-day Train the Trainer course, hosted by Leavitt’s Freight Service and endorsed by OTA.
