16 Oregon Trucking Associations, Inc. Oregon Truck Dispatch A Tribute to Bob Russell For over 30 years, Bob Russell has been a staple at OTA, the legislature, and the trucking industry in Oregon. Bob announced his unofficial retirement last fall, to begin after the 2018 short legislative session. Time has now caught up with us, and early in March OTA board members and key staff members joined together for a legislative day at the Capitol in Salem, followed by a legislative reception to conclude the session. During the reception at Amadeus Restaurant (Bob’s favorite), a few of the legislators he’s worked with over the years honored and recognized him with brief speeches and even a musical performance! Those that know Bob will agree that he has been a resource and key go- to contact for trucking-related and/or government affairs questions. For those that don’t know Bob, his family had been in the household goods moving industry in New Mexico. As an adult, he worked for the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) as assistant commissioner for the transportation regulatory program, then general manager for McCracken Motor Freight, before landing at OTA, where ran the Association as president for over ten years. Most recently, he has helped OTA tackle the tough legislative sessions as vice president/government affairs and has participated in multiple committees. Outside of work, Bob is a licensed hot air balloon pilot and a qualified sailor. He enjoys traveling with his wife, Donna, and has most recently traveled to the African safari. He is a loyal friend to many and is always quick to explain, help, and lead others. Bob will be greatly missed, and although it will be difficult to find another source for information and guidance, we wish him the very best on all his future adventures!
