OTA Dispatch Issue 2 2018

5 www.ortrucking.org Issue 2 | 2018 ADVOCATING, EDUCATING, AND PROMOTING THE TRUCKING INDUSTRY EVENTS UPCOMING EVENTS With 2018 almost half over, our thoughts are already turning to the 2019 legislative session and, honestly, we’ll need all the time we can get to prepare for what’s in store. Some of the issues are already quite familiar to us, such as Cap and Trade. Paid family leave will also be on the agenda, along with—undoubtedly—new tax proposals. It might seem like the same old song and dance, but there are always some new twists and turns. Our government affairs team, led by new Director Waylon Buchan, will be ready to fight on behalf of OTA members and the Oregon trucking industry as a whole. And, as always, we are depending on the support of our membership to make it through. Membership support of OTA’s advocacy efforts can take many forms. The most obvious of which is contributing to the Oregon Truck PAC. This is our battle- chest that funds outreach, support for like-minded candidates, and much more. You can learn more about the Truck PAC on OTA’s website, where you can also make a contribution. If you want to have a little fun while supporting the Truck PAC, join us for the annual golf tournament in July with all proceeds going directly to the Truck PAC fund. As I mentioned above, your voice plays a key role in OTA’s advocacy efforts. The trucking industry makes a bigger impact on public and political minds if we have a united front. Whether it’s offering written testimony, contacting lawmakers, showing up for a group event, or even testifying in front of the legislature, your presence is what leaves a lasting impression. OTA members are the faces and stories behind how our industry started and where we’re going. In closing, I’ll leave you with a question to consider: Why did you join OTA? I hope your answer inspires you to find ways to get involved and actively engage in guiding the future of Oregon’s trucking industry!
