OTA Dispatch Issue 2 2018

Oregon Trucking Associations, Inc. 26 Oregon Truck Dispatch OTA News, cont. In case you haven’t heard—there’s a new group at OTA. The new Membership Committee, chaired by Heather Hayes with Tradewinds Transportation, met for the first time before our annual Safety Conference. The purpose of the committee is to improve our interaction and service offerings to current members and to help drive our message to attract new members. To launch the discussion, Heather asked each member to answer the question, “Why are you a member with OTA?” It’s no surprise that top answers included, “having someone to call with safety questions,” “having training opportunities for my staff to stay compliant,” “receiving current information and industry updates through publications and at events,” “having legislative representation and opportunities to get involved,” and “to network with others in the industry.” But, OTA can’t do it alone. And that’s why the Membership Committee is important. Food Safety Modernization Act Presentation In our fast-paced industry, it’s often difficult to bridge the gap between the shipper, receiver, and the transporter especially with the new Food Safety Modernization Act rules in effect. The local chapter of International Food Technologists asked OTA to present the trucking industry’s perspective of the new rules and what food manufacturers need to know. John Sallak (on behalf of OTA) and Brian Cyrus with JLE Truckwash did a great job of connecting the mysterious puzzle piece of what happens when food is in transit! They helped answer some questions and emphasized the importance of safe food transportation procedures. If you know of other groups that could benefit from basic trucking training, contact [email protected] or call 503.513.0005. The more members we have, the more effective we are! As part of our immediate action items, the committee passed out a Membership Satisfaction survey to all event attendees to help us analyze current OTA services and what may need improvement. Additional projects are underway. Stay tuned for updates! Interested in being on the Membership Committee? Contact Vilija at info@ ortrucking.org or 503.513.0005.
