OTA Dispatch Issue 2 2018

Oregon Trucking Associations, Inc. Oregon Truck Dispatch I t’s hard to believe, but summer is already upon us. For OTA, it’s also the start of a busy event season with the Truck Driving Championships (TDC) in June and the Truck PAC Golf Tournament in July, all leading up to the Annual Convention in September. The TDC is the perfect opportunity to celebrate our drivers and our industry—with a little friendly competition thrown in. The Truck PAC golf tournament is the major fundraiser in support of OTA’s political advocacy efforts. The golf tournament has grown into an event that draws both carrier and allied members. While it is certainly the perfect excuse to get out of the office for a round of golf, the importance of the event goes beyond the chance to improve your backswing or putting accuracy. All proceeds from this event go directly to the Oregon Truck PAC fund, often referred to as OTA’s battle chest. OTA relies on these funds to proactively represent and defend the interests of Oregon’s trucking industry. The opposition is often very well-funded, making it more important than ever for OTA members to step up and support the Truck PAC. Golfing is just a bonus. Keep in mind that last year’s golf tournament was almost at full capacity, so be sure to sign up early! Get your teams together and we’ll see you on Tuesday, July 24 at Langdon Farms in Aurora for the 2018 Truck PAC Golf Tournament. I also encourage you to mark your calendars for the OTA Annual Leadership Convention. This is where OTA really focuses on the business at hand, both as an organization and an industry. This year we’re changing the format to include more educational opportunities, as well as the chance to more fully participate in OTA’s committee meetings and the annual meeting for members. We’re also incorporating some more fun. Our golf tournament will be scheduled during the convention rather than after it, and we will be dedicating the proceeds from the event toward our newly formed scholarship fund. We have traditionally offered a small college scholarship to an industry member’s child, but our goal is to expand the size and scope of this effort. We are now in the process of scheduling exciting speakers that will cover a broad range of topics, and we have some fun dinners and entertaining events in the works. 2 2 Diane DeAutremont OTA Chair Get your teams together!
