Oregon Truck Dispatch OTA at ATA’s Management Conference and Exhibition (MC&E) October 21–24, 2017 | Orange County Convention Center | Orlando, FL S everal OTA carrier and allied members attended ATA’s MC&E this year. The conference highlighted driver shortage as the top issue in the industry. Chris Spear recapped ATA’s accomplishments in the last year, ATA approved a policy to adopt autonomous technology, a new chairman was elected, and ATA’s new LEAD class was announced. Guests included top government officials who spoke about the importance of attracting new talent to the industry and four industry legends who shared their stories. In addition, a few individuals were recognized for their involvement in various aspects of the trucking industry. Every year since 2014, the Rocque Dameo Award is presented to an ATA state vice president that best demonstrates working with his/her fellow trucking executives to advance the goals of the overall industry, ATA, and the individual’s state association. Typically, the individual is honored for working with the ATA membership team to recruit new members and/or retain existing members (such as providing new member recruitment leads and helping to sell the ATA) as well as assist the ATA’s advocacy agenda. We are happy to announce that our Board Member, Andy Owens with A&M Transport, was selected as the 2017 award recipient! Congratulations, Andy! In conjunction with the award, the winner’s state trucking association is presented with a $5,000 contribution. Jana Jarvis, OTA President, accepted Andy’s award on his behalf and the contribution to OTA. We’d also like to congratulate Truckers Against Trafficking for winning the Mike Russell Trucking Image Award. Andy Owens with A & M Transport wins the Rocque Dameo Award!
