OMA Medicine in OR Spring 2016

SPOTLIGHT ON Rather than snapping x-rays and sending them to a radiologist, the technician would now also snap photos with the iPad and send them to the dermatologist. Building on this familiar pathway helped clinics understand how the service could be incorporated into their existing infrastructure for the benefit of patients. For me, involving providers and communities in developing these innovative models and the relationships needed to ensure their success is every bit as exciting as the actual technology. Oregon’s Coordinated Care model is one way in which these relationships can develop. OHA’s Transformation Center is helping make these innovative approaches possible. My hope is that the project can serve as a model to other communities that are looking at new approaches to increase access to specialty care and using familiar technology to do so.  w ww.theOMA.org Spring 2016 27
