FINANCIAL FOCUS Three Key Steps to Take During the Winter Season to Maximize Your Financial Wellness By Shawn O’Higley, The Partners Group DURING THE WINTER SEASON we all have many things we need to accomplish for our families, homes, and schools. Winter is also a great time to focus on getting organized. Consequently, in the world of financial planning, we recommend the following three key steps to take during the beginning of the year to maximize your financial wellness. Like most people, I inherently know whether my physical wellness is good or bad. However, even if I think I’m in good condition I like the idea getting a second opinion, checking in with the doctor, and getting confirmation from a professional on how I’m doing. There is a peace of mind I get from that process, and the same occurs in our financial lives. We know that we’re probably not investing 100 percent appropriately, or that all of our insurance contracts are not protecting us the way they should. We know there are some expenditures taking place that could be better directed toward helping us reach our retirement goals. Some of us think we’re doing pretty well, but most of us agree we have room for improvement. If you are one of those people who handles your financial planning well on your own, congratulations. However, I would bet even those folks would appreciate a second opinion and reviewing some creative ideas they may not have thought about, particularly if they’re not in the financial planning business. continues  w ww.TheOMA.org Winter 2016 35
