Two pediatric cardiologists have joined PeaceHealth since 2014. Along with a team of clinicians, they provide expertise in evaluating, diagnosing, and managing the complete range of cardiovascular conditions that pertain to children— services previously not available in the local area. Pediatric hospitalists. Until 2015, a small team of PeaceHealth Medical Group pediatricians split duty between their clinics and RiverBend to provide care to children while they’re hospitalized. Now in place is a dedicated team of five pediatric hospitalists, providing continuity and specialized care. Kid-friendly imaging, surgery prep. RiverBend’s spacious, state-of- the-art MRI machine allows pediatric patients to pick out a color scheme, music, and a movie to watch. In 2016, RiverBend’s pediatric and injury prevention teams formed a local chapter of Safe Kids Worldwide, with the aim of improving child safety. At public events, caregivers provide information and educational materials related to safe child transportation, teen driving, helmet use, and home hazard mitigation. By the time RiverBend turns 20, Dr. Zallen hopes the campus will be even more of a comprehensive, regional focal point for pediatric care. “We’ve had great support from the community,” he said. “We’re delighted to see so much donor support for the Heartfelt House, and we hope that generosity will continue as we improve and expand care for the children in this community and beyond. They deserve the very best care, close to home.”  H More than 350 employees with the Salem Health Medical Clinics teamed up to collect 3,514 new backpacks and school supplies for 31 area schools, plus the local Salvation Army. “The personal funding people have put into this is about $40,000,” said Bahaa Wanly, Salem Health chief operating officer and Salem Health Medical Group vice president. “The coordination that’s come with this is pretty amazing.” The backpacks and supplies will go to hundreds of needy elementary school students from Marion and Polk counties.
