Thank you for your attention and compliance, L. Paul Balderamos DDS, MS, FACP Vice-Chairman New Mexico Board of Dental Health Care We are getting a few cases of poor communication... Patients are crying "Bait and Switch" on big cases. Some bullet points from an article that came out in the Associated Press written at a Laypersons level.  • Please communicate the length of time that a complex case will take. Include the time for healing of grafts and the length of time in temporaries. The cost of each stage of the case should be disclosed and the responsibility of follow up and monitoring the case as if progresses must be discussed with the patient.  • Materials used certificates. Dental labs should provide certificates and records of materials used. These must be maintained in the patient records.  • Dentists must report Malpractice Settlements made by your insurance company on your behalf to the NMBDHC. Failure to report will result in fines and other discipline.  • Take the jurisprudence exam. It is open book and the NMBDHC grants a unit of CEU. The exam serves as a good review.
