President’s Message
Michael Law, DDS
C
olleagues, I am deeply humbled and thankful for the opportunity afforded me to
serve you as your president. I think it says a lot about our membership when given
an opportunity like this to a new dentist. As your president, I promise to serve
you in the most professional and best manner possible.
Last year a coalition of your peers met in Albuquerque, at the Albuquerque Hotel, to discuss
the state of our Association, and to establish a 5-year Strategic Plan for the Association.
A large portion of the strategic plan has been dedicated to our membership, and more
specifically, how to better our membership and how to increase our membership’s market
share. This is why, in the next few New Mexico Dental Association Journals, you will see
items dedicated towards membership specific concepts. Also, over the next year or two, you
will start to see several changes with our membership which may include but are certainly
not limited to, increase benefits, a one on one membership recruitment program, and a
mentorship program for new dentists.
One of the goals of the strategic plan that has already been completed is the formation
of the New Mexico Dental Association’s New Dentist Committee, a committee whose
goal is to help the needs of our new dentist members. This committee will be chaired by
Albuquerque’s own Dr. Joseph Gherardi, a new dentist who is a graduate of the University
of Colorado at Denver’s School of Dental Medicine. This summer, the American Dental
Association will be sending in a team to help Dr. Gherardi and us, with our newly formed
New Dentist Committee. We are grateful that Dr. Gherardi has agreed to help our new
dentists with his service.
I also want to take a moment and sincerely thank those of you who participated in this
last year’s Mission of Mercy in Rio Rancho. The event was a great success thanks to you,
your staff, and all of the volunteers who gave up their time, to help those in need. I look
forward to the next Mission of Mercy, to be held in Santa Fe, April 7–10th. If you have
not experienced a Mission of Mercy before, I encourage you to volunteer; it is an extremely
rewarding experience. As you know, giving back to those in need is one of the best parts
of our profession.
Once again, thank you for the amazing opportunity you have bestowed upon me. This is
our association, and if there is anything that you need, would like to see done, or would
like to help with, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Michael Law, DDS
NMDA President 2015–2016
