16 The test area includes slabs and planks on an inch of bedding sand over compacted aggregate alone, and on a 4 in. (100 mm) thick concrete base over compacted aggregate. Both assemblies are identical to those modeled and provided in the draft design tables. The pavement structures will be subject to heavily loaded truck traffic for one to two years, typical to that shown in the photos. Besides load monitoring, performance and failure will be documented based on the extent of cracked or severely displaced paving units. Knowledge Base continued on page 17
