Funded by the ICPI Foundation for Education and Research, the pavement test area was constructed to help validate performance of selected slab and planks, base materials and thicknesses developed from finite element modeling. The modeling led to creation of draft design tables up to 75,000 ESALs. One ESAL is an 18,000 lb equivalent single axle load.
