4 HCAOA The Voice MEMBER NEWS THE HCAOA 2019 ANNUAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE was a huge success; over 400 attendees convened at the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort. Attendees gathered in the mountains overlooking the city of Tucson to share best practices, network and celebrate the achievements of the home care industry over the past year. Pete Smith, author and founder of SmithImpact kicked off the formal program with his keynote address, “Dare to Matter: Becoming the Wellspring of Significance.” Smith explained how his mindset toward work and life changed following a stroke at the age of 36. No longer was he worried about success or happiness; his focus shifted toward leading a life of significance. He outlined the six-pillar framework that he has developed and shared with organizations around the world, aimed at creating positive impact. Smith encouraged the crowd to identify the damaging role that fear can play in our lives, and minimize it in pursuit of deeper ownership, accountability and trust. HCAOA then recognized outstanding contributions to the home care industry over lunch, presenting the following awards: HCAOA Caregiver of The Year Award Winner: Jeffrey Huitt, Comfort Keepers of Bremerton, WA HCAOA Industry Leadership Award Winner: Stephen Tweed, Leading Home Care HCAOA Chapter of the Year Award Winner: HCAOA Connecticut Allen Hager Legislative Award Winner: Karen Stephenson, Home Instead Senior Care – Chicago, IL Sheila McMackin Leadership Award Winner: Peter Ross, Senior Helpers Throughout the day, conference attendees took time between sessions to visit the exhibit hall and learn more about trending technologies, practices, and strategies.
