HCAOA The Voice Summer 2019

2 HCAOA The Voice EXECUTIVE CORNER Identifying Opportunities for Home Care Unity IN THE LAST THREE MONTHS, the home care industry has seen its fair share of challenges—and opportunities to unify. State legislatures are taking aim at the industry, introducing bills that endanger caregiver privacy, eliminate standard non-compete and non-solicitation agreements, and otherwise inhibit home care businesses from growing at their preferred pace. In some of these cases, HCAOA and its members have seen victories, and in some, the challenge has deepened. While these are difficult measures to fight, they offer the chance for members to put up a unified front in ensuring that home care providers can self-determine the scale at which they grow. In the face of this, several of our chapters, including Connecticut, Wisconsin, Florida, and California, hosted lobby days that gave mem- bers the chance to share their concerns directly with their state representatives. Additionally, several chapters brought together member organizations and provid- ers who aren’t yet part of the Association for lively discussions regarding union- ization efforts, change management, improved employee and patient experiences, and other key topics. HCAOA Conferences in Washington, Illinois, and Wisconsin saw large crowds tackle large issues facing the industry. Since the last issue of the Voice, we’ve seen our staff grow as well, adding Keith Campbell as a Manager of Marketing and Communications, and Teresa Turner as our Coordinator of Administrative Services. These hires will allow HCAOA to better focus its efforts on growth, advocacy, and interconnectedness. We view the next quarter, as we prepare for our 2019 Leadership Conference, as a time of great opportunity for growth and unity in the home care industry.
