HCAOA The Voice Fall 2019

2 HCAOA The Voice EXECUTIVE CORNER The Home Care Industry Needs Our Engagement IN OUR LAST ISSUE OF THE VOICE, I mentioned the opportunity that exists for home care providers, specifically HCAOA members, to come together to lead the conversation on how America takes care of its senior population just as the Baby Boomer generation ages to a point where home care has become a necessity. As we all convene in Tucson at the 2019 HCAOA Annual Leadership Conference, it is the perfect time to talk about what that conversation looks like inside our own house. This year we have expanded the ways that HCAOA members can engage on core issues. We have launched the HCAOA News Center. Our Congressional Lobby Day continues to be a successful way for our members to engage not only with their members of Congress, but also with each other to find the best policies for the home care industry to thrive. Our HCAOA chapters have been the lifeblood of this type of engagement—many have hosted state lobby days and have done outstanding advocacy work to fight for core issues impacting our industry. Hard-fought advocacy campaigns in Connecticut and Illinois and our stance on caregiver privacy and illegal organizing in California are just a few examples of what the home care industry can do from a unified standpoint. Additionally, there are opportunities to become involved in the HCAOA governance structure to help lead the Association’s strategic efforts. I urge HCAOA members to consider volunteering to join one of our committees—we currently are soliciting members for our Membership, Corporate Relations, Legislative, Research/Data, Conference, and Standards & Ethics committees. These positions offer home care providers the unique chance to direct how the association progresses on a number of fronts relative to the HCAOA strategic plan, and represent an excellent opportunity for members to be actively engaged and make their voices heard. We mustn’t pass up the opportunities to drive the home care industry forward, but we can only realize those opportunities when we are uniformly engaged with each other and pulling in the same direction. I hope our meeting in Tucson is just the start of the great engagement we will have for the near future and beyond.
