www.calodging.com November/December 2018 21 continues   In the sunset of 2018, as we look forward to the start of a new year, CHLA welcomes the 2019 incoming Board Chair, Michael Pace. INCOMING CHA IR Michael Pace General Manager InterContinental Mark Hopkins San Francisco WITH MORE THAN TWO DECADES of international hotel experience, Michael Pace brings a diverse perspective to the CHLA Board of Directors. His tenure includes management positions at hotels in Europe and leading sustainability efforts at some of San Francisco’s most beloved properties. Inspired to serve and make people happy, Michael attended Bournemouth University’s hotel school in England. After graduating, he began his career at Forte Village Resort Hotel in Italy and spent seven years in various management positions at hotels in England, France, Germany, and his native country of Malta. In 1996, Michael moved to California with his wife where he fell in love with the forward-thinking community of San Francisco. Michael has experience with several San Francisco hotels including The Clift Royal Sonesta, Kimpton hotel group, W Hotel, and Evolution Hospitality. As an award-winning leader, Michael is frequently invited to speak at national environmental meetings. With a keen interest in sustainability, mentorship, and guest speaking, Michael is actively involved in the local community. He currently serves as president for the Hotel & Restaurant Foundation where he oversees the granting of over $150,000 a year in scholarships throughout California, director on the board for the Hotel Council of San Francisco, as well as serving as an advisory board member for City Car Share and San Francisco State University. A native of Malta, Michael is fluent in Maltese, German, Italian, French, and English. When not on-site at the hotel, he enjoys gardening, mountain biking, and spending time with his family in Novato, CA. Michael with Chef Robert Irvine.
