CH LA Lodging News Fall 2015

4 California Hotel & Lodging Association FALL 2015 Providing great hospitality should not just be confined within a hotel, but shared with the surrounding community and employed as a valuable resource. THE PAST yEAR HAS CERTAINLy been a very exciting time for our industry. As the 2015 Chair of the California Hotel & Lodging Association (CH&LA), I’ve been involved in the hotel & lodging industry at a higher level than ever before. It’s been a privilege and an honor to serve—to give back to the industry that has given so much to me. CH&LA’s mission is to advocate, educate and communicate; entirely on behalf of our members and the industry as a whole. Among other priorities this year, CH&LA supported common sense legislation on short term rentals, has kept up with the myriad of minimum wage proposals locally and at the state level, and has been involved in many regulatory discussions facing our industry. Additionally, the education and communication components of CH&LA were equally important this year. CH&LA completed a model injury & illness prevention program for the safety of our employees, led the industry in water conservation efforts, and developed an overview and resources for the ever-important issue of human trafficking. The common theme of this year’s activities is the involvement with our communities and i’m very pleased that CH&LA’s involvement manifested itself in a very special way this year. Following the leadership of the CH&LA Board of Directors, CH&LA members raised nearly $300,000 for the victims of cancer and their families via our partnership with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Providing great hospitality should not just be confined within a hotel, but shared with the surrounding community and employed as a valuable resource. it’s been a busy and productive year and i sincerely thank you for your membership support. I would also like to thank Lynn Mohrfeld and everyone at CH&LA for their hard work as well as a special thanks to all the volunteer leaders who serve on CH&LA’s Board of Directors and committees. it’s truly a team effort. My involvement with CH&LA has not only been a great professional experience, but the friendships and connections i have made will last a lifetime.  Terri Haack CH&LA Chair President, Terranea Resort Message froM the chair
