2 California Hotel & Lodging Association SPRING 2015 I am excited to see the continued growth of the industry and together, we can expand upon our successes and innovate and grow. FROM THE RECESSION ONWARD, the hospitality industry has been the leader in creating jobs in California. Continuing this trend, from January to February of this year, leisure and hospitality employers in California reported adding 12,600 jobs. This represents the largest amount of jobs added by any industry and underscores the importance of the hospitality industry in California. Although the hospitality industry is experiencing record growth, there are numerous challenges including burdensome regulations and legislation that threaten the industry and new technology and environmental issues the industry will need to face. I encourage you to be an active voice and give back to your community—now more than ever. As the fastest growing sector in the economy, now is the time to advocate and inform our legislative officials and regulatory agencies about the importance of hospitality industry. your membership and participation with CH&LA plays a vital role in our advocating on behalf of the industry. For example, CH&LA has placed a high priority on ensuring fairness and a level playing field between the hospitality industry and the short-term rental market. Additionally, we are also supporting a total compensation proposal for tipped employees. In 2015, we will also be following new Proposition 65 and California Building Code regulations that could possibly heavily impact the industry. And as the environmental challenge of navigating through the drought and balancing guest expectations and experience with usage restrictions, you can rest assured that CH&LA will be involved and communicate with our members as the situation unfolds. For more than 120 years through membership support, CH&LA has served as an indispensable resource communicating and protecting the rights and interests of the California lodging industry.
