SPRInG 2015 California Hotel & Lodging Association 9 Vanessa Sinders, Vice President and Department Head for Governmental Affairs with the American Hotel & Lodging Association, provided members with a national update. Chip Rogers, President of the Asian American Hotel owners Association, provided an update of his association’s activities. Ralph Heim and John Caldwell, with CH&LA’s contract lobbying firm Public Policy Advocates provided members with a look back at the 2014 legislative session and elections and discussed how our legislative issues faired and how the elections changed the makeup of the legislature. They also provided insight to the issues that will be talked about in 2015. Lastly, Allan Zaremberg, President and CEo of the California Chamber of Commerce, updated CH&LA members on the biggest issues facing the business community and discussed what the California Chamber of Commerce is currently doing to protect the interests of all businesses. Later in the afternoon, attendees went over to the Capitol and met with legislators and staff, and also attended a committee hearing on “Transient occupancy Taxes and the Home- Sharing Phenomenon.” The Legislative Action Summit once again served as a great venue for our members to advocate on our behalf and let our legislators know how vital the hospitality industry is to California.
