CH & LA Winter 2015

2 California Hotel & Lodging Association Winter 2015 I’m honored and humbled to lead this organization and I stand at your service. AS i BeGin MY YeAr AS CHAir of the association, I’m humbled by those who have come before me and have been a part of the success of the organization, which is significant and a shining light for our industry. We should all be proud to be members of the California Hotel & Lodging Association. Following Bimal Patel of Concept Hotels as Chair is an honor. His tireless work over the past 18 months has been an inspiration, providing guidance and a strategic approach which greatly benefitted CH&LA and its membership. We are lucky to have him and all the volunteer leadership who have contributed to the success of CH&LA. I’d like to especially recognize two CH&LA Board members—Steve Robbins, CH&LA’s long-standing Chair of the Audit & Investment Committee, and David Jones, of the University of San Francisco—whom both announced their retirement this year. This coming year is poised to be another good year for the lodging industry, which I’m sure will bring new opportunities and, of course, challenges, which leads me to a significant initiative that will be undertaken by CH&LA in February of this year. I challenge the entire hotel & lodging industry in California to raise one million dollars for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society this February by joining me in what we’ve termed the “Million Dollar Mission.” This unprecedented campaign is being spearheaded by the leadership of the association, especially Tom Klein, Regional Vice President of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts in California and Chair of the Northern California Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The CH&LA board and I are completely committed to this initiative to help aid the fight for Leukemia and Lymphoma and make it a success. Let’s do this because we can—together we can make a difference to the patients and families who are affected by these diseases. Finally, I want to express my appreciation for the members of the California Hotel & Lodging Association, both the properties and the vendors and suppliers to the industry who support CH&LA’s role to protect our investments and serve our industry. Your membership support helps CH&LA connect you to the whole picture, charting a course so that we can all help to make it happen instead of letting it happen to us. I very much look forward to working with the new Board of Directors and the Executive Committee, as well as Lynn Mohrfeld and his very capable and talented team. I’m honored and humbled to lead this organization and I stand at your service.  Terri Haack CH&LA Chair Terranea Resort MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR
