American Traffic Safety Services Association 8 Government Relations Talking state transportation funding ATSSA represents industry at NCSL Summit ATSSA’s Government Relations team exhibited at the National Conference of State Legislatures’ (NCSL) Legisla- tive Summit, July 30–Aug. 2, in Los Angeles, California. The annual summit brings in more than 5,000 attendees, many of whom are state legislators from across the United States. During the summit, trends in transportation funding were discussed, and the ATSSA team was able to meet attendees and share information about the work the association’s members do to advance roadway safety. “ATSSA has exhibited at the NCSL Legislative Summit for several years and participating in the summit is a great way for the association to gain visibility in front of state legislators from across the country. We get approached a lot when we’re exhibiting at these conferences by legislators who have a story that connects with ATSSA’s mission to advance roadway safety—whether it’s about an incident that took place in their own lives, or in their district,” said ATSSA’s Di- rector of State Government Relations Ashley Wieland. According to Wieland, by exhibiting at these events, ATSSA builds relationships with legislators that are an important component in successfully advocating on the state level for policies that save lives on roadways and of the need to invest in roadway safety infrastructure.
