The Signal | May/June 2018 41 Chapter News Arizona Chapter The Arizona Chapter of ATSSA met at the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) in Phoenix, Arizona on March 20. Arizona Rep. Drew John, vice chair of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, discussed the outlook for surface trans- portation in the state and other transportation priorities for the Arizona legislature. John also learned how chapter members work to make roads safer and reduce roadway fatalities. Chapter News Georgia Chapter Craig Brisbois of the City of Mesa provided an overview of changes and updates in their newly released Temporary Traffic Control Man- ual. Brisbois said the city staff appreciated receiving feedback from chapter members when developing the manual. “Our hope is that this will be a great guide for all companies deploy- ing traffic control in the city,” Brisbois said. The manual can be down- loaded in PDF format on the City of Mesa or Arizona chapter web- sites. The next meeting will be held June 19 at ADOT in Phoenix. ATSSA chapters met across the United States to discuss area and industry initiatives. ATSSA staff participated in numerous chap- ter meetings to update members on the associations initiatives including ATSSA’s State Government Relations program, The Foun- dation programs and upcoming events, such as ATSSA’s Legislative Briefing & Fly-in and National Work Zone Awareness Week. Visit www.atssa.com/Chapters for more information. The Georgia Chapter of ATSSA met March 22 and was hosted by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) at its facility in Forest Park, Georgia. There were 33 members in attendance. The meeting focused on High Friction Surface Treatment (HFST) projects in Georgia and traffic control updates. GDOT Testing Bu- reau Chief Rick Douds gave a presentation on statewide HFST projects and how projects are chosen. GDOT Construction Liaison Steve Nesbitt provided updates on the upcoming revision to special provision 150, retroreflectivity requirements (150.2.02), and channelization devices (250.2.04). The chapter voted to organize two events in early 2019: State Ad- vocacy Day and a Pedestrian Rodeo. Two task forces were formed to lead these efforts. The next chapter meeting will be a two-day event in Buford, Georgia. The Annual Golf Outing will be held Sept. 19 and a chapter meeting will be held Sept. 20. Arizona Representative Drew John spoke with the chapter about surface transportation and transportation priorities in the state. Individuals from GDOT spoke with the chapter about ongoing transportation projects and coming updates related to retroreflectivity and channelization.
