ATSSA Signal July/August 2018

American Traffic Safety Services Association 10 Meetings & Conventions The Annual Convention & Traffic Expo will be held February 8–12, 2019 in Tampa, Florida, at the Tampa Con- vention Center. ATSSA will host the 2019 Road Safety Data Forum, for the third time next year. The forumexplores crash data and looks at how roadway safety infrastructure plays a role in crash outcomes. For this year’s forum, speakers will focus on crash types—intersections, curves— from an infrastructure perspective, and unpack recent data that shows a rise in crashes, and how that data intersects with traffic control devices and roadway safety infrastructure. ATSSA and the Transportation Research Board (TRB) will host the winners of the Traffic Control Device (TCD) Challenge for the third year in a row. This challenge offers high school and college students an opportunity to provide innovative solutions in traffic control devices. The students will be on the exhibit floor, presenting their projects to Expo attendees. The Annual Convention & Traffic Expo will continue to include ATSSA commit- tee meetings, and The Foundation’s golf tournament and sporting clays event, which helps to fund the work The Foun- dation does to support families who have lost a loved one in a roadway work zone crash. At the upcoming Annual Convention & Traffic Expo there will be some exciting changes for attendees to be aware of, according to ATSSA’s Vice President of Member Services Donna Clark. The New Products Rollout will include members of the media to provide members’ latest products with additional exposure. There will be additional networking events for first time Annual Convention & Traffic Expo participants, as well as new do- mestic and international ATSSA mem- bers. There will also be another recep- tion specifically for public agency members to attend. “Our goal is to bring these individuals to- gether for a unique networking oppor- tunity while at the Annual Convention & Traffic Expo,” said Clark. ATSSA’s Circle of Innovation will be host- ed again during the 49th Annual Con- vention & Traffic Expo, but according to Clark, this will be the “solutions” edition, which looks at how the roadway safety industry and ATSSA members can uti- lize innovation to solve challenges in support of the goal of TowardZeroDeaths on the nation’s roadways.
