American Traffic Safety Services Association 36 Training News ATSSAMaster Instructor highlights importance of quality and uniform training HOA Chapter President notes need for proper training with increasing new technologies and cost of materials In addition to its many other efforts such as government relations advocacy, membership engagement, and innova- tive technologies, ATSSA has dedicated resources and staff to support its train- ing initiatives. ATSSA provides the highest quality train- ing, which according to ATSSA Master Instructor Brad Henry of Potter’s Indus- tries LLC., combats current issues within the roadway safety and infrastructure industry. “My work as a master instructor in addi- tion to my leadership roles with the as- sociation have allowed me to help ad- dress major issues related to hiring retention and finding quality workers as well as the lack of uniformity within the roadway safety industry,” Henry said. Henry, who is the president of the ATSSA Heart of America Chapter (HOA), and also sits on ATSSA’s Chapter Presidents Council and Pavement Marking Commit- tee, has been involved with the associ- ation since 1998 and has served as a master instructor for the past four years. During this time, Henry said his work along with the work of other ATSSA mas- ter instructors to provide proper train- ing is a critical component in solving hir- ing, retention, and standardization challenges. “One area of concern for a lot of employ- ers is finding qualified workers and then keeping them. This, along with the issue of uniformity on how roadway work zones are being set up, presents a ma- jor problem to the industry,” Henry said. “By working to provide proper training, we can help to mitigate the negative ef- fects these issues can cause. It is all about roadway safety and helping to train more roadway workers properly so they can take that expertise out onto U.S. roads and help increase public safety.” For more information on ATSSA Training, visit www.atssa.com/Training.
