ACPA Quarter 4 2018

Concrete Pavement Progress www.acpa.org 4 Bill Davenport American Concrete Pavement Association bdavenport@acpa.org  | 847.423.8703 A FESTIVE AIR is all around us as we approach the holiday season, but we’re also celebrating for another reason. This is the time of year we celebrate the “ACPA Excellence in Concrete Pavements” awards, which we present at our annual meeting each year. We actually announce the finalists far enough in advance to allow contractors, agencies, and engineers time to make arrangements to attend our gala awards reception and dinner. We then reveal the gold and silver award recipients during a special ceremony. This year, we recognized the commitment to quality, hardwork, and tremendous efforts of 22 different contractors. The pavement construction and rehabilitation projects may be found in 13 states or regions represented by ACPA-affiliated Chapters and State paving associations. The winning projects were determined by 40 professionals who devoted their time and expertise to serve as judges. ACPA thanks all of the people who submitted projects. The work of selecting the award-winning projects was difficult because there were scores of projects submitted and evaluated. We thank the judges for weighing the projects care- fully and selecting the 27 that truly are the best of the best. In addition to the Excellence awards, we also present an excellent column by Tom Olson and his colleague, Rielly Lund, who in this issue, cover the timely topic of “Differing Site Conditions: A Roadmap For Additional Compensa- tion and Time.” We wish you a joyous holiday season … and a prosperous, safe, and happy year ahead in 2019.
