Concrete Pavement Progress www.acpa.org A C P A N E W S 26 ACPA Takes a Stand on Timely Topics FHWA Resources Cover Concrete Mixtures ACPA’s “Perspectives” documents provide both an overview and the Association’s formal positions on timely policy and technical topics. First developed in 2010, most of the position statements have not changed, except forminor updates to keep pace with evolving issues. There are currently about a dozen policies and positions covered in the documents, which cover the following topics. • Alternate Design/Alternate Bidding • Competition in the Marketplace • Highway Authorization (updated April 2017) • Highway Conditions and Funding Needs • Life Cycle Cost Analysis • Pavement ME Design • Pavement Preservation • PaveExpress and I-Pave Design • Price Adjustment Clauses • Pursuit of Quality Workmanship in Concrete Paving • Tolls and Tolling The FHWA’s Mobile Concrete Trailer (MCT) is offering four, 1-page documents that cover subjects related to concrete pavement mixtures and operations, based primarily on experiences and observations from the MCT. They include: • Advantages of reduced cement factors; • Advantages of optimized aggregate gradations; • Differences between cylinder and core strengths; • Non-destructive pavement thickness measurement. To download a copy of the publications, follow this link: www.acpa.org/fhwa-040918/. If you have questions about these one-pagers or the MCT program, please contact Mike Praul at Michael.Praul@dot.gov or 207.512.4917.  One of the most used is ACPA’s position on highway authorization, but all the current position documents are commonly used to frame policy and technical issues at both the national and local level.
