ABC-SEMI Issue 2 2020

2 Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. Dear Friends, We are living in unprecedented times. As both State and local governmental agencies have issued a shelter-at-home mandate due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we at ABC SEMI are continuing to serve the needs of our members in these trying times. As we shift our operations to remote locations and participate in numerous “Zoom” meetings and telephone conferences, we are actively reaching out to our members to provide them the services and information they need to weather this storm. In order to keep our students and members safe, we took immediate precautions of postponing craft training classes and a number of upcoming events, including but not limited to, the Meet the Generals event, SEMCA Graduation, and ABC SEMI Excellence in Construction Awards. All ABC SEMI and SEMCA meetings and committees will be postponed as well unless we notify you of online or teleconference alternatives. Our concern has been and continues to be focused on our members and the struggles they are experiencing. Many of our contractors are deemed “essential services” and are working—often with a skeleton crew—to service the critical needs of their customers. Others have simply opted to cease operations and wait out this global pandemic. What ever your situation or decision, we are here for you and will continue to provide you with up-to-date, cutting-edge information and services as we all work to make it through this catastrophic event. If you are continuing work, certainly social distancing and other sanitary measures are key for jobsites looking to avoid quarantine delays. But, I encourage you to educate yourselves on the latest techniques and if you have any questions regarding onsite safety for COVID-19 or any other issue to reach out to us and our safety director, Kim Gamet for the latest recommended safety measures. ABC has gotten special waivers approved to offer first aid and OSHA classes online during the shut- down, which would allow your employees, who were too busy just a few weeks ago, to take classes that are important or even required in their roles. Use this crisis as an opportunity to make your business better. ABC SEMI, our associate members, along with ABC National will be providing a series of technical resources to help construction companies. Please log into our website: abcsemi. org, or go to our Facebook or Twitter page to take advantage of this excellent information geared to protect you, your employees, and your companies during the coming weeks and perhaps months as COVID-19 continues to impact our lives. Let us know if we can help you in any way during these challenging times ahead, and we will keep you in our prayers.
